It has been a very exciting time for Turnford Netball Club. Firstly, our Senior National team gained promotion into Division 1 in the top league in the country. This was after a phenomenal 18-2 comeback in the second half of the game and then………..
THIS HAPPENED.....
The U16s won the England Netball Club National Championships last weekend. This is the pinnacle of junior netball where all teams across the country compete to gain, county, then regional qualification. The top 18 teams then compete in the National Finals for placings.
Turnford Netball Club travelled to Nottingham University to take part in this prestigious event. Saturday morning saw Turnford meet with Grangetown from the North. Turnford were focussed from the moment they stepped on court with all twelve players taking part and they took the match 45:16. The next game was against a tough Northern side, Bury, but with determination and grit, Turnford took the game 29:21 putting them through at top position during the afternoon’s matches. The team continued to show their class against Henley Netball Club where Turnford took the match 33:13. The last match was to decide whether or not Turnford would be playing for the 1-6 position in the country. This time they met Grasshoppers from the London area, and Turnford proved a formidable force taking the match 37:33.
Sunday morning saw a calm and focussed squad and were to meet Charnwood Rutland. This match was without a doubt a hard fought win where Turnford took the match 25:23. Then to face once again Bury where the goals were scored from end to end with a draw 31:31, but this was enough to put Turnford into the finals.
Turnford were to play Oldham in the final hurdle and in a thrilling finale Turnford took the match 33:29. Through this journey, commencing last November, Turnford took the whole tournament without a single loss. Coach, Carole Titmuss, stated that proud would be an under statement of how she felt about this squad. She has been with them since they were 11 years of age and this would be their last junior match together. Turnford hope to see many of them in their senior squads.
